This year we kicked off wednesday meetings on a more academic note with Nielsen coming in to give an excel workshop. Nielsen is a global information and measurement company founded in 1923 and is active in over 100 companies. Nielsens representative Max gave us some ideas about what it’s like working for Nielsen, having worked with disney, Facebook and even getting the chance to get some feedback on a project from Tiesto.
Max gave us some ‘cool’ tips and tricks on how to navigate excel in a more efficient and professional way. The biggest take away is that it’s what you can do, not how you do it. So fancy equations aren't necessary as long as the worksheet does what you need it to.
The quickest way of becoming an excel wiz is with this crazy new program that harbors all answers your beautiful minds can think of: google. It’s all about asking the right questions. So if you're given a whole load of data in brackets and you’re looking to extract it, instead of taking excel night classes for the rest of the semester just look up “Excel extract data from brackets” and voila.
Of course a handy table with some keyboard shortcuts was also handed out. With these your mouse can collect dust in the corner while you type away like the hacker you always wanted to be.
