1. Where are you studying abroad?
I studied abroad in Florence, Italy because I learned Italian for 4 years in High School and I really wanted to go to Italy to experience the culture first hand.
2. What seems to be trending in your city?
In Florence, fashion and art were definitely the main aspects of the culture that are always trending. It was interesting though because in Florence there was a tendency for these worlds to merge. For example, there is a Ferragamo Museum where the company not only only displays the history of the company, but it also brings in artists to show the art of "Balance" and how it inspired Salvatore Ferragamo to create some of his best shoe designs.
3. Any cool ads you’ve seen?
Honestly, it was really cool to see how there are still a lot of old school marketing techniques used in Italy. For example, every time I would walk to school, I would see huge posters announcing concerts and events glued to brick or stone walls They weren't like the typical billboards you normally see in highways here.
4. What classes did you take?
In Italy I took Marketing, Conversational Italian, Italian Cinema and Roman Art & Archaeology.
5. Advice for students looking to study abroad.
My piece of advice would be to choose a study abroad cite that you are truly passionate about or have some sort of connection with. Often times I hear of people going to certain study abroad sites just because everyone else is going there. Don't be afraid of going to a place that most people normally wouldn't go to. If you feel connected to the place, you will notice that the experience will be so much more meaningful and you'll make a ton of new friends.
