What does Marketing Society mean to you?
Marketing Society means a lot to me. I got involved my freshman year after being introduced to Mktsoc at club fair. I became a gold member my first semester and really wanted to be more involved. I started on the board my sophomore year as the Conference Director for our first ever Conference. And then Hurricane Sandy happened and I had to replan the Conference in a month. I went abroad and then came back to be Vice President my junior year and now President senior year. So I’ve been with mktsoc for a long time and it’s been a really important part of my Stern experience. I knew I liked Marketing before coming to Stern but mktsoc really introduced me to the industry and showed me all the really cool things I could work on after I graduate.
What’s your favorite part of being on the board?
My favorite part of being on the board is being able to see the impact that mktsoc has on other students. It makes me so happy when people discover Marketing Society and are able to become part of the community of people who love to talk about ads and brands and in general be passionate about marketing. I love being on the board and have gained so much leadership experience from it but what makes me the happiest is seeing others benefiting for the hard work that we do and wanting to work in marketing.
What kind of marketing do you want to do?
I’ll be working in consumer packaged goods (CPG) marketing after graduation and I’m very excited because I’m passionate about branding and how brands are so much more than a logo on a package.
Have you held any cool internships?
Yes, I’ve had several internships related to entertainment marketing that have been super cool. I interned at Blue Man Group during the fall semester of my junior year. I learned about the challenges of arena marketing (where you’re selling seats to an event) and got to see what goes into the annual planning for Blue Man group nationally. Also I got to see the show from behind the scenes, including putting the blue on two blue men! This past summer I interned at Macy’s in the Parade and Entertainment Group where I worked on the cool annual events that Macy’s hosts- including the Thanksgiving Day Parade, Glamorama, Flower Show and 4th of July Fireworks. I got to work the event for Fireworks and it was super cool to be on the ground to see what it’s like to put on a huge event.
What advice can you bestow to our awesome MktSoc members?
It’s really important to find your passion. So many people come to school thinking they have to do one thing or the other and don’t take the chance to explore their options. Take cool classes on things you think you may never use but seem really cool. It will make you so much happier to be doing homework or interning or working on something you’re passionate about rather than something you think you should do because you’re in business school. There is no one right path through Stern. But I do hope your path takes you to at least one Marketing Society Event!
