What does Marketing Society mean to you? When I came to Stern as a freshman I thought I liked marketing, but I didn’t really know what that meant. After I joined Marketing Society I started to get an idea of what marketing means in the real world. Now, as a sophomore, Marketing Society is my place to learn about different career paths while also getting to catch up with a group of great friends.
What’s your favorite part of being on the board? When you’re on the board you get to see a little more of how everything gets done in Marketing Society. Everyone on the board is constantly talking about planning and marketing the events, but at the same time we are joking around and having a lot of fun with each other. Through being on the board I’ve become so much closer with Marketing Society members that I barely knew or didn’t know last year.
What kind of marketing do you want to do? I’m still testing the waters on the type of marketing I’m most interested in, but I love digital marketing. After going to company events and talking to possible future employers I began to realize how important the data & analytics side of marketing is becoming and I would love to merge my love of being creative and my skill with numbers in a career in digital marketing.
Have you held any cool internships? Yes! I’ve been interning with a start-up e-commerce site called Dressometry for almost a year now and I love it. I’ve gotten great hands on experience on how to build a brand from the ground up through social channels. It has also been incredibly exciting watching the company grow. When I started with Dressometry we didn’t even have offices and now we are talking about scaling up and I’ve gotten the chance to be apart of many important strategy conversations.
What advice can you bestow to our awesome MktSoc members? Go to everything. Marketing is this huge field that can be seen in so many ways and you won’t know about all the possibilities until someone presents them to you. Freshman year I would sometimes skip certain Stern club events because I thought I’d never ever want to go into those fields. Then later on I realized that I had missed out on some great events and learning about interesting career paths because I was too caught up with one specific path I already had in my head.

What kind of marketing do you want to do? I'm really interested in marketing and what it means/how it works within businesses of different sizes. From startups to large companies, I want to learn the ins and outs of marketing as a company grows.
Have you held any cool internships? I am currently interning at a tech startup called Bowery. I'm learning a lot and I'm getting to experience all aspects of starting a small startup in a competitive community and market, including a large portion of marketing.
What advice can you bestow to our awesome MktSoc members? Since I'm only a freshman, I can really only give advice to fellow freshman in terms of NYU and Marketing Society experience. I would really just say -- don't be afraid to talk to anyone and reach out, people are always willing to lend a helping hand.
